Among the various furnishing accessories, can plants be used to decorate the bathroom?

The bathroom is a “service” room, which, however, just like the other places in the house, can give satisfaction if properly furnished. But how can you furnish a room like a bathroom? Of course with plants! Highly recommended for their beneficial qualities, among which we can find the ability to purify the air and hide odors. And which of these lend themselves more to such a particular environment?

A study by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (more commonly known as NASA) has revealed how plants can also protect us from some harmful elements in the air, such as formaldehyde and benzene. Among the studies and the many researches done on plants, it emerged that being surrounded by plants is positive for our mood, a serious help to calm us down and make us feel more relaxed. In fact, plants improve the internal microclimate.

Plants in the bathroom not only furnish with elegance but add volume and depth. In addition to giving color, they make the bathroom warmer and more welcoming. Just create the right conditions for the specimens to stay healthy. Therefore, choosing plants as an ornamental element in the bathroom has a whole series of advantages. Let’s see them together.

While the soil that houses the plants inside the pots has the ability to eliminate bad odors, the green of the plant, such as the leaf, helps the surrounding environment to regulate the humidity in the air.

Anglaonema, in fact, loves to be illuminated by indirect sunlight, but can also do without it. Its soil needs a certain amount of water, and for this reason, the bathroom is an ideal environment for its survival since the humidity present in this room will be able to fully satisfy this need.

7. BEGONIA

Begonia is a plant that absorbs moisture. The most suitable is the Begonia Rex, colored and ornamental. He wants indirect light. Begonia gives the bathroom a romantic touch. It is a plant that has no particular claims, other than to receive water with a certain regularity. The humidity in the bathroom fully responds to this need. Begonia infuses the room with a sweet scent, counteracting bad smells and freeing the air from harmful substances.

8. ASPARAGINE

Asparagine is an evergreen perennial plant. It is famous for the ornamental qualities of its beautiful foliage, making it the perfect houseplant. Asparagine loves the humidity of the bathroom and needs moderate light. Asparagine does not require very complex treatments.

This way of thinking too quickly neglects the potential that an old apartment could offer; in fact, it is often the dated houses that offer interesting locations and generous surfaces as well as recalling the affections of a lifetime.

The case study belongs to a family eager to renovate the finishes of their home and improve some spaces of the house, without having to change the structure.

MAIN BATHROOM

Until the early 2000s, the main bathroom of every home had to be a representative environment for the house: colored sanitary ware should not be missing; 3-hole taps; a bathtub, and lots and lots of space. The purpose of this room, rather than in everyday use, was the sole manifestation/ostentation of “beauty”.

These premises, which are still valid today, were well reconciled with the poor propensity for innovation of the past: who, in fact, would have thought of placing an 80×80 framed shower enclosure in the main bathroom?

Today, the perception of the bathroom environment for each user requires to fully fulfill the concept of “beauty”, because a “beautiful bathroom” is the place of well-being where the shower enclosure plays a leading role.

A large surface such as that of the case study offers the possibility of changing the distribution of the furniture: once the tub is removed, a large washbasin can immediately find its natural location; the shower free from any frame and profiles are placed near the window thanks to the Oblique stabilizing shelf.

BATHROOM

The service bathroom, reinvented as such, was nothing more than a space completed only with a vase and a sink.

It is the need for a second bathroom, alternative to the master one, in which to welcome guests, which also drives the project relating to the latter.

The practicality of use of a folding door, a choice aimed at making the most of the dimensions offered by the room, makes the space near the window the ideal location for a shower, durable and functional, perfect for guests.

Our architect’s choice fell on a shower enclosure with an integrated handle, characterized by acrylic glass, a solution that increases privacy in a very used bathroom, such as a service bathroom.

RELAXATION SOLUTIONS

Particularly appreciated for its texture, inspired by natural elements such as stone, the Lago shower tray , available in large format, easily allows offering large dimensions and adequate water containment in just 3.5cm thickness. Composed entirely of mineral resins and coated in Gel Coat, a soft-to-the-touch material, it is waterproof and long-lasting.

We think that a short guide could be useful to orient yourself in the most common situations in which it is necessary to resort to a custom-made shower enclosure. Since it cannot be exhaustive, Relax is at your disposal to advise you, with its expertise, on the most suitable solution for your bathroom without sacrificing quality and design.

Custom height shower enclosure

From a production point of view, we have no limitations in the height of a shower enclosure. However, to ensure the stability of the shower enclosure and the safety of those who use it, we recommend that you respect the following heights:

• glass 4 mm ⇒ maximum recommended height 200 cm

• glass 6 mm ⇒ maximum recommended height 220 cm

• glass 8 mm ⇒ maximum recommended height 250 cm

Custom shower enclosure in width or depth

In principle, there are no length or depth limits in the construction of the shower enclosure. It is sufficient to combine a door with a fixed in-line wall in order to have the necessary size. While the door has limitations in the maximum dimensions, which vary according to the type of opening (sliding, hinged, pivoting or saloon). The fixed wall can vary in size without particular limitations. In this case, it is important to use the correct support bar to give stability to the shower enclosure.

The walk-in is the simplest solution to adopt. In fact, great planning is not required but only a correct measurement. However, there is the possibility of making a 2 cm adjustment if the wall is not perpendicular thanks to the profile fixed to the wall. The presence of protrusions or walls is common in a bathroom. It can depend either on the shape of the bathroom itself or on constructive choices. Also in this case, it is possible to offer solutions that include the walk-in , the corner shower enclosure or the niche one. Let’s go and see the 3 different possibilities.

Walk-in

The situation is very similar to that seen with the attic, what changes is only the position of the shaping. The wall profile allows an adjustment of 2cm if the wall is not perpendicular. Stability is guaranteed by the support bar, which can be horizontal (A), vertical (B), at 45 ° or replaced by a clamp if you need to fix it on the sloping roof (see point 3 above).

Elongation profiles

They are the most common and are used when the standard shower enclosure is missing a few centimeters to be installed. They allow you to increase the standard size :

  • up to 4 cm per side, in the case of a corner shower enclosure,
  • up to 8 cm in the case of a niche shower enclosure.

These profiles are positioned between the shower enclosure and the fixing wall and are of the same finish and height of the shower enclosure. To illustrate, the final size of a corner shower enclosure 80×80 could become 84×84. There is no single type of elongation profile, but there are different types:

What is walk-in?

The walk-in is an open shower space. It differs from a traditional shower enclosure by the lack of a door. In this case we will talk about a fixed glass wall with support arm.

The current types of walk-ins

Angled.
A glass wall supported and fixed with stabilizing bars to the wall on the opposite side.

Center wall or in niche.
In the center of the wall, a large glass plate is fixed parallel to the selected wall, thus leaving two distinct entrances. In the niche the operation is the same, leaving two separate entrances or only one, as needed. In the first situation, 2 support bars will be needed to give stability, in the second only 1.

The limits of the walk-in shower

Although simplicity is still the reason for its success, there are 4 situations for this type of shower enclosure that have not found a solution.

1. The water leaking
The main concern for those who have to make a shower without a door is the possibility of water leaking from the cabin while washing. The problem can be solved if we can apply two simple precautions: with the creation of a glass wall of the correct size, capable of blocking water drops and making sure to position the showerhead in the farthest point from the opening of our walk-in.

2. The presence of a window in the wall
A very common situation is the presence of a window in the shower area. The problem in this case can arise with the fixing of the support bar, which is normally fixed perpendicular to the glass. In this situation it is necessary to use variable angle support bars. However, the contraindications are of 2 types:

  1. If I have to fix the support bar externally to the shower tray, I lose the specific aesthetic cleanliness of the walk-in by having the bar visible. The problem remains even more evident if the window is large
  2. If, on the other hand, the bar is hooked inside, it can be too close to the shower head, creating a disturbance that is not only visual but also practical.

3. The presence of an attic
Another aspect concerns the placement of the walk-in in the attic, in bathrooms with a sloping roof, or in conjunction with walls. The classic solutions involve the use, in addition to the support bar, which varies according to the angle required, of 2 other possible tools: the vertical bar and the clamp. Not always ideal solutions, as they require great precision to be assembled.

4. Aesthetics
The great scenic nature of a walk-in shower enclosure can be interrupted by a support bar, a presence not always welcome, capable of stealing the show from the large glass wall.

The continuous search for new solutions for a shower environment that is beautiful to live in but at the same time practical and functional has led to the creation of new solutions to improve the traditional walk-in.

This type of shower enclosure has upper and lower rails that must be cleaned regularly. Cleaning with this solution may therefore require more attention. The descaling treatment

Limestone has always nestled in the most remote corners of our bathroom. What is limestone and why does it form? The bathroom, a usually humid environment, has surfaces that remain wet most of the time. This can occur both due to a condensation phenomenon and due to the water that does not slip on the crystal. Once the water has evaporated, it leaves the salts it contains (calcium carbonate and magnesium) on the surfaces. The more time passes, the more difficult the limescale stains become to clean. How to solve the problem? To avoid this problem, you can choose a shower enclosure with Crystal Protect by Relax anti-limescale treatment.
